MediaWiki

MediaWiki is a wiki platform designed to run on large server farms serving millions of hits per day. It is a scalable, feature-rich wiki implementation that processes and displays data stored in a database.

How it works

• Every edit is written to the database without deleting previous versions, allowing easy reverts in case of vandalism or spamming
• Manages image and multimedia files stored in the filesystem
• Supports caching for large wikis with many users
• Can be coupled with Squid proxy server software for high-traffic deployments
• Pages use wikitext format, so users without knowledge of XHTML or CSS can edit them easily

Organizations and communities that need a robust, scalable wiki for collaborative knowledge building are the ones it is designed for.
